Badami Travel

Known for being home to the splendid looking cave temples, Badami is a beautiful sojourn nestling with a valley of rugged red sandstone. Every sightseeing trip in the city starts with a visit to the Cave Temples of Badami. These temples catch the heart of all with their intricate carvings and depictions. The temples have been raised in a typical Badami-Chalukya architecture. Here you will see four caves. While the first one is dedicated to Lord Shiva, second and third are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the fourth one is a Jain Cave.

Agastya Lake is another wonderful retreat in Badami located on the outskirts of the city. The lake belongs to the 5th century and is considered as sacred. Pilgrims visit here to take a dip into its water to wash away their sins. The lake was named after Rishi Agastya and has a fascinating history linked to it. Spot the beautiful Bhoothanatha temples which seem to be emerging from the lake.  These temples are inspired from the South Indian style of architecture. They are dedicated to Bhoothnatha, a form of Lord Shiva. Here you will see 2 major temples. Bhutanatha temple was raised during the rule of the Chalukya kings of Vatapi whereas Mallikarjuna Temple belongs to the era of the Chalukyas of Kalyani.

History seekers must also explore the Badami Fort, a prominent historical wonder of the city. The fort was once residence of the Chalukyan kings. In 642 AD, Pallava rulers looted the fort and destroyed it. The fort features splendid structures inspired from the Chalukyan style of architecture. Visit here to explore its marvelous structures which are testimony of its glorious history. Another caretaker of historical in Badami is Aihole rightly called the Cradle of Indian rock architecture. This ancient village is home to over 125 temples showcasing Buddhist and Jain styles of architecture. These temples have been categorized into 22 groups by the Archaeological Department.
